Is Volvo Really Up for Sale?

June 10th, 2009

Glady Reign asked:

Rumor has it that the Ford Motor Co. may let go of its Scandinavian brand - Volvo. After its announcement that Land Rover and Jaguar brands are up for sale, watchers in the industry expect that the next deal would involve Volvo Cars, also part of the Premier Automotive Group (PAG).

Reports about Volvo joining the PAG sell-off has sent flutters through the company’s Australian operations. But Ford denies the sell-off. The Dearborn-based automaker recently sold its luxury automaker Aston Martin. Then it decided to include Land Rover and Jaguar to the potential sale list.

The sale is aimed at raising money to finance the turnaround of the automaker for it to return into the black soon. In overhauling its American brands, Ford needs a considerable sum to defray the expenses. In view of this, analysts in the industry said that Volvo is likely to be sold at $8 billion dollars.

“Officially, it’s no comment because we haven’t heard anything or received any instruction from Ford or Volvo,” Volvo Australia spokesman Todd Hallenbeck says. “All we know is what has been floated in European media.”

“The worrying thing about these reports, even if they are speculation, is that it doesn’t do a lot for brand confidence,” Hallenbeck says. “The disappointing aspect of the reports is that they come when Volvo internationally and in Australia is on an upward curve.”

“The relationship between Volvo and Ford has always been very strong. It has always been a money earner for them… Ford has invested the money for us to develop the C30, the new C70, the S80. They have given us the real foothold to develop a new model range,” Hallenbeck adds. “There is a lot of speculation and a lot of people are saying that Volvo may be the only brand (within PAG) that has a value… but it is all just speculation.”

Hallenbeck points to global sales and a local operation that is fast. “We couldn’t be more happy with the way things are going,” Hallenbeck says. “To the end of June we were up 24 per cent on the previous year and that was up 37 per cent over ‘05. To last week we have sold more than 2900 cars, more than for the entire year in 2003. We have a lot of momentum, the dealers are incredibly happy and everybody is smiling.”

One of the strong reasons behind Volvo’s resurgence has been the renaissance of its lineup. The modifications were not limited to the enhancement of the design philosophy, styling and dynamics, as well as the upgrade of auto parts such as the Volvo axle, engine and more.

Ford, which sold Aston Martin for $450 million in 2006, has valued Volvo at 25 percent more than the $6.5 billion it paid in 1999, reported Cars Guide. The official line from Ford is that it is not in discussion with any companies regarding a sale of Volvo, but added that it is continuing to assess all of its options for the business, the report added.

Separately, Hyundai denies its alleged plan to acquire the Swedish brand. “We do not have any interest in buying Volvo or Jaguar or Land Rover,” says Jake Jang, a spokesman for Hyundai.

Hyundai, which was named by the Sunday Times as a potential bidder for Volvo, said that it is too busy pursuing its own expansion plans. “Our hands are full now,” Jang said. “We are in the process of building global manufacturing facilities from China to the United States and Europe.” Hyundai had also denied a report in February that it was interested in buying Jaguar, Chron reports.

Hyundai Body Kits—flaunt Your Vehicle

June 8th, 2009
hyundai
Andrew Barker asked:

If you want your Hyundai car to look phatter than anyone else’s car, especially when you hit the road, then go get yourself a Hyundai body kit.

Hyundai body kits are exterior modifications that can be done to your car making it look more attractive and cooler. It enables you to enhance and personalize an ordinary car to something that can be considered as an extension of yourself.

Aside from aesthetic satisfaction a Hyundai body kit can give you, it also improves the aerodynamics or performance of your vehicle. Aerodynamics refers to how airflow affects the movements of your car. Hyundai body kits when installed properly, lessen the air resistance of your car and cools down the engine simultaneously.

Before we proceed to installation, let’s first talk about how you can get the best deal when it comes to buying body kits. Though purchasing body kits may seem easy, it won’t be if you do not have a clue on how to look for those that are worth your money.

The first thing you have to know when purchasing body kits is that the body kit should be able to match the exact specifications of your car. Otherwise, it will be useless. Many people make the mistake of falling in love with a body kit and buying it without even thinking if it will really match the technicalities of their cars. If the body kit is not made for the model of the car you have, then forget it. Move on and continue looking. I’m sure you will find the best body kit suited for the make and model of your vehicle.

The next thing you have to consider is the material the body kit is made of. Basically, a body kit is usually made of urethane or fiberglass. If you have a Hyundai car and you live in a place where there is snow and roads that are bumpy, then go for a Hyundai body kit that is made of Urethane. Urethane is highly resistant to damage, and can stand the cold months without cracking. One thing that is not good about urethane, though, is that once it breaks, there is no way it can be repaired no matter what you do.

If you like a material that can be repaired, then go for a fiberglass. Fiberglass is advisable for those people who live in areas where the weather is pretty calm and decent and where the road is smooth. Though fiberglass can be repaired when it cracks, try to avoid frequent damage as it will cost you a lot of money and inconvenience.

After deciding on the style and on the material of the body kit and you have ordered it, you now have to think about how you will paint and install the kit. Painting job is easy, but the installation is definitely not. You may need to get the help of an auto body shop to install the kits for you. Seeking the help of a professional body shop can get a bit pricey but nonetheless, a good work.

After installing, do not get too excited and think that everything is perfect and nothing can go wrong. Test drive your car and see if you can hear any rattling sounds caused by loose bolts and if the suspension is stiff enough.

If everything is already okay, make sure that you get the value of your money by flaunting the new look of your Hyundai vehicle.

Do you think it would be possible to get $10,000?
I’ve done KBB and another site. The worth was about $8,000-$10,000. What I’m asking is if there is anyone, in their professional opion, or in their knowledge know whether it’s actually possible to get about $10k.

Catalytic Converter: Satisfying Customers’ and Environment’s Needs

May 26th, 2009
hyundai
Angie Hill asked:

Believe it or not, automobiles are now manufactured and designed in a way that they are safer both for the user and the environment. The added edge of a vehicle as safer to the environment has been a force driving future growth for automobile makers for decades.

Combustion is never perfect and for that, smaller amounts of more harmful emissions such as Carbon monoxide, Hydrocarbons, and Nitrogen oxides are produced by most care engines. Among the three hazardous elements, Carbon dioxide is believed to contribute much to the severing global warming. These are the three main regulated emissions and also are the ones that catalytic converters are designed to reduce.

The Eastern company of Hyundai Motor Company has risen to the challenge of regulating emissions through the

Hyundai Catalytic Converter. The Korean brand of automobiles believes that the survival of human race, the development of pollution-free vehicles can resolve the dwindling natural resources, and the dream of recovering a cleaner planet. The catalytic converter would allow these end goals. This helpful auto part acts as a reducer and oxidizer for harmful elements a vehicle emits.

For years, there are technology breakthroughs that helped reduced elements like carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons by 96 percent and nitrogen oxides by 75 percent. Cutting-edge technologies like that of the

Mercury Catalytic Converter from Ford Motor Company of the West is one. Aside from the vehicles ability to cut remaining levels of smog-forming emissions, the catalytic converter also does the job well.

At this day and age, more motor companies put their concern about the environment and the environmental effects of their cars and trucks as one of the top priorities. Continuing reductions through the engine make and help from the catalytic converters like that of Hyundai Catalytic Converter and Mercury Catalytic Converter, vehicles nowadays can satisfy customer needs as well as that of the environment.

Lpg/cng Cars Can Reduce Pollution

May 25th, 2009
hyundai
carazoo.com asked:

Increasing fuel price and pollution are the major concern in with today’s auto industry. We can neither stop using car and other automobiles to solve this issue. What we can do is to think of other options that will not only lighten our pockets but also reduce the pollution control to a larger extent.

Government is taking initiative to protect our nature, in certain states they have introduced LPG version of fuel intake and made it a mandatory for all the public transport vehicles. Government should ensure that all the public transportation should run on either on LPG or CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) across the country.

Various Indian car makers are also rolling out with both LPG and CNG version. Some of CNG version cars are Ford Ikon Flair a dual-fuel variant that can run both on petrol and CNG, Mitsubishi Lancer, Chevrolet Optra and the cars with LPG versions are Maruti’s Omni and WagonR Duo, which is receiving a very good response. Hyundai is also preparing come up with its LPG version for Santro soon. Tata motors are also expected to join the race and will be launching it LPG variant shortly but presently they offer authorized CNG kit fitment with their dealers for their ‘Indica’ and ‘Indigo’ model.

But there are some issues faced with the LPG/CNG users that prevent others from opting for the LPG/CNG kits. Some car owners are not well versed with the knowledge of converting a car into LPG and fall prey to officials of Transport Department by paying huge some of money as fine. Some kits are authorization like lack of warranty, safety features leading to the poor performance of the vehicle as well as blow up your car.

One should be extremely careful while opting for a LPG/CNG kits, make sure that you visit an authorized dealer with a legal certificate with numbers and other details as the same will be verified by the checking officer

The authorized dealers fit the equipment and issue a certificate giving the numbers on the kit and other details. The car owners have to take their vehicle to the Transport authorities and show them the certificate issued by the dealer. The officials verify the same and make an affirmation in the RC book.

Comparing LPG with CNG

LPG version is always the first choice as it is easily available compared to CNG due to it limited availability and can be found only in 42 cities. LPG is also cheaper and easy to store than the CNG. This means that CNG is the best option for the commercial vehicles whereas; LPG fits perfectly in every sense to private vehicles.

Hyundai Joins Race to Build Cheap Cars

May 24th, 2009
hyundai
Matthew C. Keegan asked:

Say the word “Hyundai” to some people and they will respond with “cheap cars” as their answer for describing the Korean automotive giant. Known for building the Accent, Elantra, and other low-priced vehicles, it isn’t hard for consumers to get a new set of wheels at prices starting around $10K, thanks to special rebates the brand is currently offering.

Put Away The Honda Bikes - Cheap Cars Are Coming

But those prices are a small fortune to people in places like India, where the standard mode of transportation for many families is piling on their Honda motorbike and heading out. Buses and trains in India are crammed with people who can’t afford even the most basic transportation, but thanks to Ratan Tata who has promised to build a $2500 car for the Indian market, that is expected to change.

Since Tata’s announcement in January of this year, several other global automakers have responded by saying that they, too, will build affordable cars for India and similar markets, though stopping short of saying they’d be able to match the Nano’s price.

Hyundai’s Absence, Kia’s Too

Curiously absent from the clamoring legions of “let’s make cheap cars for India” clamor has been Hyundai. Nissan, Peugeot, VW, GM, and several Japanese brands have announced their quest for cheap car greatness, but until yesterday not a peep was heard from Hyundai. Seeing that they already own controlling interest in Kia, some sort of car from the joint automakers could possibly supply the emerging market.

Hyundai’s response was made official in a recent interview with Hyundai Motor India managing director and CEO Heung-soo Lheem who told Indian media that Hyundai would bring a car retailing for $3500 to the Indian market by 2011.

Half The Price Of The Hyundai Santro

The ultra-low cost Hyundai car will cost about half the price of its current barebones model, the Santro, which sells for just over US$6000. Lheem said that Hyundai’s Namyang Technology Research Center is currently developing the budget vehicle, which will be produced in India and exported to other countries. Hyundai says that the yet-to-be-named model will be far superior to the Nano in quality and performance, likely a good thing considering that the Nano could not possibly sell stateside due to safety issues.

The global trend is for automakers to continue developing cars for emerging markets as international wealth increases and a growing middle class demands their own transportation. Sure, the pressure on the world oil supply will only worsen, but by that time the availability of plug-in hybrids such as the Chevy Volt could lessen that pressure elsewhere.
